What About The Canon 60d Upgrade - Upgrade Or Hybrid?
The new Canon 60D upgrade to the 50D is in the shops, both in the brick and mortar outlets and in the online cyber-stores. Don't you know that Canon would like to see the same success that the Canon Rebel T2i and the mid-range Canon 7D have enjoyed during this past year?
An even more pertinent question must be considered: Is the Canon 60D a real upgrade of the 50D like most Canon photographers were wishing for, or is it a cross of the 50D, the T2i and the 7D as a number of online review sites are saying?
It is not too hard to reply to that question when you think about the specifications as well as features of the modern Canon Dslr. But you must decide. Here are the facts.
There are actually a number of features in which the 60D has actually been downgraded from the 50D. One of those is the construction product for the Digital Camera body. It is now a polycarbonate (plastic) polymer bonded instead of the magnesium metal alloy materials in the 50D.
Another feature that has been degraded is the continuous picture rate. Whereas the 50D is capable of 6.3 fps, the new model can capture only 5.3 frames per second.
In the middle of the equation, there are several wonderful benefits in the brand new Canon 60D that have been inherited from the older siblings, the Rebel T2i and the 7D. One of those is the 18mp sensor. It is now a common feature in all three DSLR models at this point. This means that obtaining really great picture quality is a benefit of not merely the 60D, but also the T2i and the 7D.
You will also get top quality HD video media from all three models. Your 60D provides an edge in the stereo audio input because it has even more control in that feature.
The three finest features which can be found only in the Canon 60D are:
(1) A new articulating Live view screen (LCD screen) which makes it very easy to become a nearly professional videographer with this camera.
(2) Improved control of auto-ISO
(3) Enhanced control over audio input when in motion picture mode
When you look close, Canon's 60D looks very much like some sort of hybrid. Supposition is that the other two models are performing so well that Canon administrators didn't want to infringe upon their success. Certainly, the 7D has been a much more lucrative release as compared to many of the Canon DSLRs previously. If the 60D was a legitimate upgrade on the 50D, including a price tag at about the same level, there would be many buyers who would select the newer 60D digital camera instead of the 7D.
So, Canon decided to give some and take some. The Canon 60D upgrade (or perhaps hybrid) is really the perfect in-between camera within the Canon Digital lineup.
That being said, there is one group which may not be very pleased with this release. It's is the group of 40D and 50D current owners. That is simply because they currently have a camera that is nearly as good as the new 60D (and in some cases.. as in camera build.. superior).
